Do you remember your first experience with CrossFit?

Yes, I had signed up for the 6 week challenge and I was scared to death! Meeting with a coach put some of my anxiety to rest, but I was out of shape and worried that I would never be able to complete a WOD, even a scaled one. My first day was amazing. I met encouraging members & another Challenger, Meredith, and though it was a struggle, I completed the workout.

How many times per week do you attend 618 CrossFit?

I try to go at least 4 days a week. If I go less often, I can definitely tell I've taken too many rest days.

What time of day do you attend 618 CrossFit?

You can usually find me in the 6:30 p.m. class. In my opinion, it's the best way to relieve the stresses of the day. And we're all pretty laid back.

What is your favorite post WOD meal?

I usually just have a protein shake after I get home. That late in the day, I don't usually eat a full meal. If I go to a morning class, say on a Saturday, I'll have a Greek yogurt with frozen blueberries along with my shake. I'm looking hard into the Stack'd meals, though. I think they'd be great for the weeks I forget to prep my lunches!

What is your profession or daily responsibility?

I work at the Marion VAMC, assisting our Veterans with getting appointments in the community.

How has CrossFit helped improve your lifestyle?

I have never been one to work out, always afraid that my clumsiness would contribute to injury and, to be honest, I'm the lazy sort. CrossFit has become the best part of my day! I look forward to being around our 618 family, laughing, working, learning. The more I go, the more energy I have and the more I can enjoy life outside of the gym! I plan on living to a ripe old age, and CrossFit is going to help me get there.

How has CrossFit helped improve your work life?

The strength that I've gained in my back and core have helped with my posture at work. My job requires me to be tethered to a phone for 9-10 hours a day, which isn't very conducive to good desk mechanics. I don't leave work with stiff lower back and sore shoulders any longer.

What accomplishments are you most proud of (outside or inside of the gym), and what are some future goals?

I'm most proud of the fact that I completed the challenge and committed to staying on as a member. I've been consistent for 6 months now, and I NEVER thought I'd stay past the 6 weeks. Honestly, I had fully planned to complete the challenge and leave. I'm so glad I didn't!

What is your favorite thing about 618 CrossFit?

My favorite thing about 618 CrossFit? It's hard to nail down to just one thing. I love the sense of family that I feel when I walk through the doors. No matter what kind of day I've had, it's a relief to see friendly faces. Also, I love the coaching staff. They're always willing to answer questions, modify for new members, injuries & scaredy cats. It's a fun environment!
