Kellen was born and raised in Southern California. By age five, he was competing in sports, year-round. During high school and college, he focused his athleticism on running. He moved to Southern Illinois after serving with the Marines as a U.S. Navy Corpsman.
In 2009, Kellen visited CrossFit Wilmington in North Carolina in 2009. He fell in love with concept and has incorporated CrossFit into his fitness routine ever since. Kellen loves the process of building up one's self from scratch, and has kept CrossFit in his life, even through three shoulder surgeries.
He has found fitness to be more than physical strength; it is a well-balanced combination between mental, physical and spiritual. Kellen has come to love playing the "infinite game" rather than the "finite game". He enjoys CrossFit's "tribe mentality" and how it brings together a community of diverse people for a common goal.
Kellen even incorporates CrossFit into swimming, running, cycling -- and even "grunt work" -- because he loves see people improve themselves. When he's not at 618 CrossFit, he can be found at home in his garage gym testing workouts and making himself "Harder To Kill"!
